Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho from WCW’s Fall Brawl 1997

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This match was for Jericho’s Cruiserweight Title.  Eddie was the rudo.  Neither man got a firm advantage in the early stages of the match.  Jericho first got an advantage after he started going after Eddie’s left arm.  Jericho was then able to hit a hotshot and the Lionsault: 1…2…NO!  Eddie managed to drop Jericho on the ropes, neck first.  Eddie was then able to work Jericho over after that.  Eddie was in control for a while.  Eventually, Jericho made a comeback.  Eddie got crotched on the ropes, and Jericho hit a Silverking Dropkick.  Jericho went to powerbomb him off the apron, but Eddie escaped only to hotshot himself.  Both men spilled to the floor.  Back in the ring, Jericho hit a big release German suplex.  Eddie came back with a Rock Bottom.  Jericho got nearfalls with a snap powerslam and a spinning heel kick.  Jericho hit a pair of powerbombs and then placed Eddie on the top rope.  Jericho went for a superplex, but Eddie (kind of) reversed it into a crossbody splash.  Eddie then hit the frogsplash: 1…2…3!

This was match was pure joy to watch.  Both guys were so skilled here, and it’s crazy to think about how much better they would get in the years to come (especially Jericho).  I highly recommend that you check out this match.

Match Rating: ***1/2

About TJ Hawke

TJ was a fan of wrestling as a kid (starting around 1999), and his first concrete wrestling memory is some kid bringing Hulk Hogan his old yellow and red gear backstage during an episode of Nitro. Hogan needed the gear to defeat Kevin Nash in a title vs. career match at the next WCW PPV. Nash lost the match and his career, which sadly resulted in the world losing out on seeing Kevin Nash matches for the last 13 years. Like almost all young kids, TJ’s interest in wrestling fluctuated over the years until an episode of Raw on July 3, 2006. TJ was curious and excited to see his beloved RVD show up with the WWE Title belt and what he thought was the revitalized European title. TJ decided he must turn to the the internet to figure out what was going on. Almost 6 years later, TJ is still searching the internet every day to find out what is going on in wrestling. Now though, he writes for the pop culture site (411mania.com), has his own blog (The Best of Chikara), and is the creator of the very site you are reading now.
