Bryan Danielson vs. Joey Ryan from EPIC WAR 2007

All EPIC WAR matches are temporarily unavailable.  The promotion has assured me that the matches will be available again. I will fix the posts as the matches become available again.

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Joey Ryan was in the ring claiming that there was no one in this locker room that was a challenge to him.  Then “The Final Countdown” started to play…

Joey was not happy about this situation.  Dragon had the advantage early, so Ryan left the ring to recover.  Joey went back in the ring, where Dragon promptly locked in a submission.  Joey didn’t grab the ropes because of his pride.  Joey is an idiot.  Dragon was in control (using various submissions) for a while.  Ryan eventually got fed up and tried to walk to the back.  Dragon brought him back to the ringside area and proceeded to beat his ass.  Dragon sent Ryan into the ring, which allowed Ryan’s valet (there was no commentary, so I didn’t know her name) to attack him from behind.  That didn’t harm Dragon, but the distraction allowed Ryan cut off Dragon.  Ryan started to work over Dragon.  Dragon eventually came back with a series of forearms.  Ryan got a nearfall with a pinfall where he had his feet on the ropes.  Ryan to the top rope, but Dragon countered his double sledge into an atomic drop.  Dragon got a nearfall with a backbreaker.  Joey came right back with a Mustache Ride for a nearfall of his own.  Dragon accidentally caused Ryan to kick the referee.  Ryan then hit Dragon with a superkick.  Ryan got a chair and started beating him down.  Biggie Biggz jumped onto the apron and pulled back the chair.  Dragon hit a running leg lariat, stomped Ryan’s head in and locked in Cattle Mutilation!  Ryan taps out!

This match was OK.  I’m not really a big fan of Ryan’s singles matches, and this match didn’t do anything to shake that feeling.  The match was well-worked and entertaining for the most part, but it never really got out of second gear.

Match Rating: ***1/4

About TJ Hawke

TJ was a fan of wrestling as a kid (starting around 1999), and his first concrete wrestling memory is some kid bringing Hulk Hogan his old yellow and red gear backstage during an episode of Nitro. Hogan needed the gear to defeat Kevin Nash in a title vs. career match at the next WCW PPV. Nash lost the match and his career, which sadly resulted in the world losing out on seeing Kevin Nash matches for the last 13 years. Like almost all young kids, TJ’s interest in wrestling fluctuated over the years until an episode of Raw on July 3, 2006. TJ was curious and excited to see his beloved RVD show up with the WWE Title belt and what he thought was the revitalized European title. TJ decided he must turn to the the internet to figure out what was going on. Almost 6 years later, TJ is still searching the internet every day to find out what is going on in wrestling. Now though, he writes for the pop culture site (411mania.com), has his own blog (The Best of Chikara), and is the creator of the very site you are reading now.
