Recap from TJ Hawke:

Phoenix goes under the name Flash Moon in Osaka Pro.  I believe this was the only weekend that Phoenix was in Chikara.  Claudio was a babyface here.  Claudio showed a lot of sportsmanship early.  Phoenix hit a springboard hurricanrana shortly after that.  Phoenix went for a running cross-body,  but Claudio caught him and hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.  Claudio worked him over for a bit after that.  Phoenix escaped a painful looking submission, connected on some kicks, but Claudio cut him off with a big lariat.  Claudio locked in another submission.  Phoenix escaped and baited Claudio to the floor.  Phoenix hit a skin-the-cat-hurricanranna.  Back in the ring, Phoenix hit a diving cross-body: 1…2…NO!  Phoenix avoided a Brogue Kick and got a couple of pinning combinations.  Phoenix then hit a big swinging DDT: 1…2…NO!  Phoenix went for a springboard hurricanrana, but Claudio caught him.  BROGUE KICK: 1…2…3!

This was a wonderful opener for a Chikara show.  Phoenix’s style was a perfect fit in Chikara, and I truly wonder why he was never brought back.  Him and Claudio had instant chemistry, and their matches could easily have gotten much better over time.

Match Rating: ***1/2

About TJ Hawke

TJ was a fan of wrestling as a kid (starting around 1999), and his first concrete wrestling memory is some kid bringing Hulk Hogan his old yellow and red gear backstage during an episode of Nitro. Hogan needed the gear to defeat Kevin Nash in a title vs. career match at the next WCW PPV. Nash lost the match and his career, which sadly resulted in the world losing out on seeing Kevin Nash matches for the last 13 years. Like almost all young kids, TJ’s interest in wrestling fluctuated over the years until an episode of Raw on July 3, 2006. TJ was curious and excited to see his beloved RVD show up with the WWE Title belt and what he thought was the revitalized European title. TJ decided he must turn to the the internet to figure out what was going on. Almost 6 years later, TJ is still searching the internet every day to find out what is going on in wrestling. Now though, he writes for the pop culture site (411mania.com), has his own blog (The Best of Chikara), and is the creator of the very site you are reading now.
