Recap from TJ Hawke:

This was a semi-final match in the Rey de Voladores. The winner of this match would go on to the face El Generico in the finals on Night 3 of King of Trios.  All four of these men were on losing Trios teams on Night 1 of the 2011 King of Trios.  Frightmare was also the Young Lions Cup holder at the time. Red was actually still with TNA at the time of this show.  Those were some facts.

Red and Frightmare did a sequence to start the match.  It concluded with Red doing a springboard 450 to the floor onto Frightmare.  Kid and Obariyon then squared off.  Kid was in better shape here than he was in the 2012 version of the tournament.  Kid went to make the “Suck it!” gesture, but the referee stopped him.  Kid turned him inside out with a lariat.  Obariyon fell to the floor to avoid a Bronco Buster, but Kid just wiped him out with a slingshot plancha.  A few minutes later, Red sent Kid and Obariyon to the floor and then hit a running corkscrew plancha onto them.  Frightmare scared Red to the floor. Frightmare set up for a dive, but Obariyon blocked it much to the dismay of the crowd.  They did a quadruple sleeper spot.  Obariyon hit Frightmare with a reverse Go-2-Sleep.  Obariyon went to the top rope, but Red hit him with a Trouble in Paradise.  Red called for a one-man Spanish Fly, but Obariyon fought out of it and hit a diving DDT: 1…2…3! Amazing Red was eliminated.

The Kid hit Obariyon with a series of kicks.  Kid hit Obariyon with an X-Factor, but Frightmare broke up the pinfall, so that he could hit a Kneecalepsy: 1…2…3! Obariyon was eliminated.

Frightmare quickly wiped out Kid with a tope con hello.  Back in the ring, Frightmare went for a senton, but Kid avoided it.  They ended up on the top rope, and The Kid hit a super X-Factor: 1…2…3! The 1-2-3 Kid won the match.

This match was definitely enjoyable, and I would recommend that you check it out.  The 1-2-3 Kid wrestling redemption storyline of the 2011 King of Trios was one of my favorite things in wrestling from 2011. The Kid and El Generico would go on to have an awesome match on Night 3, which is a DVD that you should absolutely buy.

Match Rating: ***1/4

About TJ Hawke

TJ was a fan of wrestling as a kid (starting around 1999), and his first concrete wrestling memory is some kid bringing Hulk Hogan his old yellow and red gear backstage during an episode of Nitro. Hogan needed the gear to defeat Kevin Nash in a title vs. career match at the next WCW PPV. Nash lost the match and his career, which sadly resulted in the world losing out on seeing Kevin Nash matches for the last 13 years. Like almost all young kids, TJ’s interest in wrestling fluctuated over the years until an episode of Raw on July 3, 2006. TJ was curious and excited to see his beloved RVD show up with the WWE Title belt and what he thought was the revitalized European title. TJ decided he must turn to the the internet to figure out what was going on. Almost 6 years later, TJ is still searching the internet every day to find out what is going on in wrestling. Now though, he writes for the pop culture site (411mania.com), has his own blog (The Best of Chikara), and is the creator of the very site you are reading now.
