Thoughts from Jon Davis:
Walking into this match I felt like I had something to prove. I had my issues with the D.U.F and the was the second match in my series with them. After obliterating Pinkie in Revere, I knew Cannon would prove a bit more of a challenge. I was familiar with some of his move set but what ended up surprising me was his quickness. Not like running quickness, but how quick his strikes were. Cannon is a deceptively smart wrestler, but his mistake was rolling to the outside. I feel like that is where he started to lose control. Overall thoughts on the match, I felt like it was back and forth and either one of us could’ve gotten it at any time. Favorite part of the match would be the obvious answer for anyone who saw it- Pinkie climbing his silly behind to the top, missing me and then getting destroyed by the !POUNCE!, which is probably top 3 on my all time list (see Grizzly Redwood and Low Ki). But at the end of the day it was a hard fought contest and got me one step closer to total victory over the D.U.F.
Recap from TJ Hawke:
Davis earned himself a contract at the last DGUSA tripleshot. This match was the first part of a three-part challenge for Davis. Pinkie Sanchez was in Cannon’s corner, and he was fantastic.
Cannon hit series of consecutive shots to get an early advantage. Davis came back with a big powerslam that caused Cannon to roll to the floor. Cannon and Davis then brawled for a bit on the floor. They hit each other really hard and often. Pinkie tried to interfere, but he just bounced off a Davis. After Davis and Cannon made their way back into the ring, Pinkie grabbed Davis’s foot until Cannon hit an enzugiri. Cannon started to get the heat after that, as Pinkie celebrated on the outside. Davis came back with some chops, but Cannon gave him a thumb to the eye. Davis gave Cannon a big boot and a big pop-up back suplex. Cannon hit a lariat and tried for Total Anarchy. Davis avoided it, but he ate a sole butt. Cannon then hit Total Anarchy: 1…2…NO! Davis came back with DAT SPINEBUSTER! Pinkie ran into the ring to interfere, but Davis killed him with the POUNCE! Pinkie seemingly died. That got the loudest crowd reaction in the match. Cannon hit his big punch and a brainbuster: 1…2…NO! Davis turned him inside out with a lariat and then hit Three Seconds Around the World: 1…2…3!
I liked this match more than others on the interwebs seemed to. I think it got Davis over as someone who was not “just another guy,” and that he brought something different to the table. If nothing else, the match is worth watching for that POUNCE spot.
