Thoughts from Sugar Dunkerton:

Big match for me and Epic. I remember us rolling in slap late for the show due to some travel issues (which I HATE, he knows :p) so we were more amped than usual. We had something to prove in the worst way. This Resistance Pro tag tournament has a ton of stellar teams and even in makeshift form, Chris Hall and Matt Cross were excellent competition. There’s this feeling there when we become Lock-Up where it’s like a re-imagining of who me and Epic are. Like the Spectacular version of Spiderman vs. The Amazing version. Same basic character traits, different retelling ya know? But the connection, the story we’re telling to these people with such an outlandish and layered gimmick is one worth carrying out. Despite the massive beatdown I endure, including an oversized senton I STILL feel to this day, I think it was great shine time for myself and Epic as a team and we’ve only got more to show. We can hang with any team we’re thrown, period. We’re doing everything we can to make it undeniable that WE are the 1st RPro tag champs. Watch it be said then become reality! The goal is the gold! Enjoy the match!

Thoughts from Aaron Epic:

This match for me and Sugar was our second match at Resistance Pro and I will say that the fans there are amazing and can not thank everyone involved enough for being there. This week I have Beyond Wrestling live show vs Dave Cole 3/5 Falls and Chikara YLC X and hope to show why I have been trying to break out

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Epic and Sugar were brought to the ring by their prison warden.  This gimmick sounds really forced on paper, but man is it cool in execution.  Sugar had broken his arm just a few months earlier (I believe).  I have never seen Chris Hall before, but he is a big boy.  The is a quarterfinal match for the Resistance Pro Tag Titles.

Epic and Cross started the match.  Neither man got a definitive advantage.  Sugar tagged in and asked for the big man.  Once Hall got in the ring, Sugar lost some confidence.  Sugar hit some slaps and punches, but Hall took him down with a lariat.  Sugar and Epic had some success when they double teamed Hall.  Cross attacked Sugar from the outside, which allowed Hall to cut off Sugar with an exploder into the corner.  Hall and Cross started to get the heat on Sugar.  The crowd started to rally behind Sugar, but they kept going with the heat and the crowd lost some interest apparently.  Sugar finally made a tag, but Cross had the referee distracted, so Epic had to go back to the apron.  Sugar finally broke free from the attack and made a hot tag to Epic.  Epic hit a tope suicida on Cross, but Cross then immediately took out Epic.  Back in the ring, Hall and Cross gave Lock Up a big double team combination.  Sugar then bodyslammed Hall (after he failed earlier in the match).  Cross gave Epic a Brogue Kick and a standing shooting star press.  Epic caused Hall to send Cross to the floor.  Sugar hit Hall with a shotgun knees in the corner and Epic then hit the Fastball Punch: 1…2…3!

Warden Myers cut a promo saying he is complete control of Lock Up, who were immediately put back in hand cuffs.  The crowd chanted “Kill the Warden!”  Sugar then cut a magnificent promo putting over their characters so well.

There were a couple of awkward moments, but this match was fun.  Sugar and Epic have pretty goofy characters in theory, but they sell them very well so it works.  This was the first match that I have seen out of Resistance Pro.  I like the atmosphere a lot, and I hope to see more free matches in the future.

Match Rating: **3/4

About TJ Hawke

TJ was a fan of wrestling as a kid (starting around 1999), and his first concrete wrestling memory is some kid bringing Hulk Hogan his old yellow and red gear backstage during an episode of Nitro. Hogan needed the gear to defeat Kevin Nash in a title vs. career match at the next WCW PPV. Nash lost the match and his career, which sadly resulted in the world losing out on seeing Kevin Nash matches for the last 13 years. Like almost all young kids, TJ’s interest in wrestling fluctuated over the years until an episode of Raw on July 3, 2006. TJ was curious and excited to see his beloved RVD show up with the WWE Title belt and what he thought was the revitalized European title. TJ decided he must turn to the the internet to figure out what was going on. Almost 6 years later, TJ is still searching the internet every day to find out what is going on in wrestling. Now though, he writes for the pop culture site (411mania.com), has his own blog (The Best of Chikara), and is the creator of the very site you are reading now.
