Recap from TJ Hawke:

The angle is that Charlie Cash has a mystery opponent to challenge Kyle Matthews for his Rampage Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship.

The mystery opponent is in fact Gallows with a mask on, and the commentators appeared to not know who he was.  Charlie Cash was in Gallow’s corner.  Early on, Gallows punched like Kane early on, and the commentators acted like those punches were a clue.  Well, Gallows did play the fake Kane.  Gallows pulled out a chair early on, but Matthews avoided a chair shot and then used the chair against Gallows.  Matthews went for a middle rope dive, but Gallows caught him with a big boot.  Gallows started to work him over after that.  Gallows used a chair to choke Matthews.  Matthews got a hold of the chair and shoved it repeatedly in Gallow’s ribs.  Matthews locked in a sleeper.  Gallows escaped and hit a sidewalk slam (IS IT THE REAL KANE?) on a chair.  Gallows used the chair to hit Matthews in the throat.  Gallows then whacked him in the back.  Matthews made another comeback, and he hit a slingshot plancha.  Matthews threw the chair into Gallows’s face.  Matthews then threw Gallows’s face into a chair.  Matthews followed that up with a missile dropkick and a frogsplash: 1…2…NO!  Charlie Cash got on the apron and tried to punch Matthews with a chain, but Matthews knocked him off the apron.  Gallows then caught Matthews with a sit-out powerbomb: 1…2…3!

Gallows finally unmasked to reveal himself.  He is the new Rampage Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

This was a damn fine brawl, and the angle of the mystery champion (while a little goofy in theory) was pretty cool in execution. As always though, the problem with RPW matches is the crowd heat, or lack there of.  I don’t know why, but it seems like every single RPW match that I’ve seen gets little to no response from the crowd.  Maybe they should offer free beer?

Match Rating: ***1/4

About TJ Hawke

TJ was a fan of wrestling as a kid (starting around 1999), and his first concrete wrestling memory is some kid bringing Hulk Hogan his old yellow and red gear backstage during an episode of Nitro. Hogan needed the gear to defeat Kevin Nash in a title vs. career match at the next WCW PPV. Nash lost the match and his career, which sadly resulted in the world losing out on seeing Kevin Nash matches for the last 13 years. Like almost all young kids, TJ’s interest in wrestling fluctuated over the years until an episode of Raw on July 3, 2006. TJ was curious and excited to see his beloved RVD show up with the WWE Title belt and what he thought was the revitalized European title. TJ decided he must turn to the the internet to figure out what was going on. Almost 6 years later, TJ is still searching the internet every day to find out what is going on in wrestling. Now though, he writes for the pop culture site (411mania.com), has his own blog (The Best of Chikara), and is the creator of the very site you are reading now.
