Recap from TJ Hawke:
Hopefully, I do not confuse the SENDAI Girls that are not Satomura. Chisako beat down Matt to start the match. Satomura delivered some big kicks to Bennett’s chest, but Bennett came back with a big slap to the face. She came back by kicking home to the floor. SENDAI was just running through Team ROH. Eventually, Matt managed to cut off Sachiko with a spear and a pair of powerbombs. Team ROH got the heat on Sachiko for a while. Team ROH tried for three stereo suplexes, but Team SENDAI reversed that into three suplexes of their own. For some unearthly reasons, Team ROH went right back to working over Sachiko. WTF. I had to rewatch that before moving on. I have no idea what went wrong, but even Satomura kind of had a confused look on her face. Well, Team ROH and Maria played Rock Band on Sachiko. SENDAI came back with the Jumonji Sisters hitting some planchas onto Bennett and Matt Jackson. In the ring, Satomura killed Nick with a Pele Kick and a DVD: 1…2…NO! Matt hit Satomura with a superkick. The Jumonji Sisters had Bennett and Matt tapping out to stereo submissions, but Maria had teh referee distracted. Satomura took on Team ROH by herself. She was going along fine, until Team ROH caught her with a triple superkick. The Bucks then hit Satomura with More Bang For Your Buck: 1…2…3!
This was a hell of an opener for Chikara. The match had great energy from start to finish, with the only blight being the SENDAI girls ending the Team ROH heat, only for Team ROH to go right back to getting the heat as if they had never stopped (seriously, that took me out of the match). Regardless, this was still an excellent King of Trios match, and everyone should absolutely watch this. Team ROH is an excellent Trios, and I really wish Ring of Honor actually used these three as a stable (which would be infinitely better than anything they ever did with these three great talents). Team SENDAI clearly earned an annual spot in this tournament with their performance throughout the weekend, and this may have been my favorite match of their’s.
Match Rating: ***1/2
Thoughts from Jesse Nguyen:
Chikara’s King of Trios always manages to bring out the best in every wrestler on the card, and this match really drives that point home. The Sendai girls are easily the stars of the match, providing a lot of impressive moves. Team ROH did a good job being the heel team of the weekend, giving the fans another reason to get behind the Joshi team. It feels like a short match, because it starts fast paced, but that doesn’t stop it from being fantastic.
